I first met Joe Human in Oxfam Bangalore where Oxfam conducted a training programme on staff development related where Joe was the facilitator. I can remember exactly UT was my early days in Oxfam..I was very young straight from college..sometime early 1980s….doesn’t have much exposure . Then after that Joe and his wife came to Bhubaneswar on official work and weekend they used to go around…
Immediately after 1999 supercyclone I got an opportunity to visit UK in recognition of my work with Oxfam particularly during supercyclone and after flood relief relief and rehabilitation in 2000..etc..
I met Joe in Oxford Oxfam office as a part of my induction where I need to know their work simultaneously my work during disaster relief..challenges, how overcame etc.etc..
One day Joe invited me to his house for lunch..when I reached his home he was cleaning his apartment..of course with vacuum cleaner.. he said he will get some money from other families staying there. This the do on weekly basis..others also does the same..the reason for writing this is here we feel shame to our own house cleaning..ee hire people..they do their own works in spite of working in senior positions. He and his wife warmly welcomed me and were very happy to see me there..spent sometime about family, office life etc etc…Joe and his wife cooked rice and curry for me..they don’t take rice but put efforts to cook rice for me…It was nice as you won’t find rice everywhere in the UK unless you visit some South Asian restaurants..
I will write few other articles on my UK trip…
